ABOUT MAURITIUS
Considered a jewel in the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean Mauritius is the perfect tropical holiday destination whether for action or relaxation for families and couples.
The island located about 2000km from the South East Coast of Africa with 330km of coastline boasts of a choice of resorts and hotels which range from grand and sophisticated to luxurious and family friendly.
Lately, the country has cultivated tourism to much success, thanks to spectacular scenery, a perpetually warm climate, and opportunities for leisure, whether they be in the water or inland. The multicultural environment also gives rise to fabulous restaurants, incomparable shopping, and a welcoming citizenry. Port Louis, the capital, looks out over a western harbor and boasts the Natural History Museum, an amazing market, and charming colonial architecture. Other must-see activities on the island include visiting Pamplemousses Gardens (with its tropical flora and giant water lilies), the Casela Bird Sanctuary, the Naval Museum, and any of the parks and natural attractions which so elegantly display the exotic beauty which Mark Twain said appeared to be the model for heaven.
The best time to visit the island is in winter (May – October) when the weather is warm and dry. The summer (Nov-April) is usually hot and humid with a lot of rain especially from Jan-March). This has however not deterred the fun seeking tourist who troop to the island all year round.

The official currency is the Mauritian Rupee which is easily convertible to GB Pounds at the rate of exchange of #1 to Mur 63.
Most international credit cards are widely accepted and the Island has a lot of ATM machines in strategic locations.
LANGUAGE
Most Mauritians are bilingual in English and French.
PASSPORT/VISA
No visa is required for British, American and EEC Passport holders. All other nationalities should contact s for the visa requirements.
DINING
With its rich multicultural society, Mauritius boasts of excellent culinary tradition from Indian curries to Chinese sweet and sour port to haute cuisine of the French and traditional English breakfast. Sea food lovers will also have a field day with the Islands giant prawns fresh fish and other sea food.
SHOPPING
The Island has a number of air conditioned shops and designer boutiques. For bargain hunters, the Central Market would provide an exciting outing where all the bargaining skills would be required.
